Why these careers are in demand
- New hospitals, medical colleges and health and wellness centres need large support teams.
- Public health programmes run by health missions recruit at district level.
- Skills are portable: you can work in government, private hospitals or abroad (with additional licensing).
Getting selected in government hospitals
- Complete a recognised course and register with the relevant council where required.
- Gain experience; many recruitments ask for one or two years, and contract posts in health missions are a good start.
- Prepare for written exams that test your subject plus general awareness and aptitude.
- Keep certificates, registration and experience letters ready for verification.
Growth path
Nurses can move to senior nursing officer and nursing superintendent posts, or into teaching with higher degrees. Lab and imaging technicians can specialise and move into supervisory roles. A master’s degree or public health qualification opens administrative and programme management roles.
