Walk-in Interview Checklist: Documents, Dress Code and What to Say

Walk-in interviews are common for contract, project, medical, research and teaching posts. There is no written exam: candidates come on the given date, documents are verified, and the interview follows, often within a few hours. Because everything happens in one day, preparation matters more than for almost any other selection.

Before the day

  1. Read the notification twice. Note the date, reporting time, venue, number of posts, eligibility and age limit.
  2. Check whether a form is required. Many walk-ins ask you to bring a filled application in a set format, or to register online first.
  3. Confirm the venue. Look it up on a map and plan to arrive early; registration often closes at a fixed time.
  4. Prepare your introduction and revise the key topics of the post.

Document checklist

Keep everything in a clear folder in the same order as the checklist. Verification is quicker and you look organised.

Dress and conduct

  • Wear clean formal clothes and comfortable shoes; you may wait for hours.
  • Carry water, a pen, and a snack.
  • Switch your phone to silent and be polite to every staff member; they often help the panel.

Questions you are likely to face

  • Introduce yourself and explain your relevant experience.
  • Why are you interested in this project or post?
  • Technical questions on your subject or the project’s area.
  • Are you available to join immediately? (Many contract posts need quick joining.)
  • What salary do you expect? For fixed-pay posts, say you accept the notified remuneration.

After the interview

Results for walk-ins are often announced on the notice board or website within days. Note the name of the contact person, check the website regularly and keep your phone reachable. If you are not selected, keep the documents ready: similar walk-ins appear every week on our walk-in jobs list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an exam in a walk-in interview?

Usually not, though some organisations hold a short written or skill test on the same day when many candidates turn up.

Do walk-in posts become permanent?

Most are contract or project posts for a fixed period. They still give valuable experience for permanent recruitments.

What if I arrive after the registration time?

Many venues close registration strictly. Plan to arrive at least an hour early.
